LP Asks: Fashion Icon, Entrepreneur, & Girl Boss Andrea Van De Vort

Andrea Van De Vort  – total mom goals and mother to our youngest influencer – Cannon, fashion icon, owner of her very own clothing line AND owns not only one but two AMAZING boutiques & a complete girl boss. Andrea is one of the sweetest souls we have ever encountered and if you’re ever in the San Diego or Monterey area you definitely need to stop by to say hi while shopping of course  – we know that it’s going to be hard, but try to save a few of her pieces for us….

Cubers, meet our girl boss Andrea Van De Vort! You can keep up with our babe Andrea here @van_de_vort

What does your breakfast routine look like? What about Cannon?

If my schedule permits, I will usually make a “gourmet” avo toast with thinly sliced Praeger Brothers bread, mashed avocado, lemon pepper, heirloom tomatoes, pea sprouts, pumpkin seeds, and a drizzle of good olive oil that I buy in Tuscany on top (yummm!). Cannon leans more towards a more simple avo toast 😉 If we’re in more of a hurry – my favorite go-to is of course, a Live Pure smoothie! 60 seconds and out the door!

What is your food philosophy in one sentence?

Always organic, local when possible, and heavy on the spices and veggies!

You are super busy, what is your go-to workout and how often do you exercise?

I LOVE hot yoga. I got into it a year ago and haven’t looked back. I try to get in there at least 3 times a week. It’s an hour that I give myself to slow down, clear my head, and not think about work…or at least try not to 😉

There are a TON of amazing restaurants in Cali – what is your favorite restaurant at the moment?

I love Valentina in Leucadia! The couple that owns it are locals to North County, and they source almost all of their ingredients from local farms. It’s Spanish-Coastal tapas style, super fresh and inventive, and the interior design by Alexis Garrett is just as pleasing to the eyes as the food is to the taste. Definitely a go-to date night or ladies night spot!

So we know this is a tough question but if you had to choose a favorite fast food joint what would it be?

Ahh, I can’t stomach any fast food really… if I absolutely had to choose one, I guess I would go for a bean burrito from Taco Bell, haha.

We see your dinner creations on IG and you girl can cook! Can you share your fave recipe?

I love to cook!! It’s so therapeutic for me, and it’s a fun and creative outlet too. I never use recipes, I kinda just throw things together and amazingly it works out 99% of the time. Practice makes perfect, right?! The latest creation I made was a vegan enchilada with roasted tomatillo salsa… here’s a basic rundown of how it all came together :

For the tomatillo salsa… start with 6 fresh tomatillos peeled and washed really good (they’re super sticky under the skin). Put them on a pan with 1/4 white onion, 3 cloves garlic, and one jalapeño… cook at 350 degrees for 20 mins or so. Then blend it all together with a full bunch of cilantro, olive oil, fresh lime juice, salt pepper. SO good I could eat the sauce by itself.

The filling: 1 cauliflower chopped really tiny, chopped walnuts, chopped zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and garlic. Cooked on medium low in avocado oil for 30 mins or so (I start this before prepping anything else so it’s ready to assemble just in time) Saute in lots of cumin, chili powder, salt & pepper.

Now to build: Pour the tomatillo salsa in a baking dish, layer siete grain free tortillas, then the cauliflower mixture, cooked rice, more tomatillo salsa, then another layer of tortillas with more salsa and topped with daiya vegan cheddar. Bake at 400 for 10 mins or until the “cheese” is melted.

Final step: Take it out of the oven and top with fresh chopped radish, tomatoes, red onion, pumpkin seeds, green onion, cilantro, and avocado. The toppings are key! Yum!!

Where do you get your style inspo?

I love traveling and getting inspired from people from all over the world!

Favorite designer of the moment (Van De Vort is our #1 but maybe #2?)?

I love anything by Atoir – they’re based in Australia, and everything is super funky, fun, and definitely stand-out pieces!

You are always glowing! Spill the beans! Top skincare product must haves?

Botnia skincare is the bomb. It’s made it small batches in Sausalito… the overnight mask is a game changer. I also wear all clean and organic makeup from ShopGood… as I’ve gotten older, the “less is more” with makeup is more my jam. I take care of my skin, so I try to wear super light loose powder to let my skin show through. A little mascara, bronzer, and a fun pop of color on my lips… 5 minutes and I’m ready – I can’t sit in the mirror longer than that without getting antsy lol.

In a fast paced mom/work balance, trying to keep up with the latest health trends, staying in shape, etc. is hard – (we understand there’s no true balance) – what advice do you have for all the ladies out there doing their best? In other words, we want to know how the hell you do it all?

There’s really no such thing as balance!! Somedays I work 20 hours and barely get my household life together – somedays I take a full break from my inbox and spend it solely on family. I just try to stay as organized as possible so I know what needs to get done in a week, and then listen to my body to go with the flow that feels right for that day. I was always an over-achiever, super type-a person (the virgo in me!) – but I’ve learned that it’s so important to slow down and take care of yourself and your family really before anything else.

Last, your favorite Live Pure flavor?

I love the Game Changer. Literally the best green smoothie I’ve ever had – it is such a treat, and feels good knowing I’m getting so many nutrients in one serving! I also love blending the Churro flavor in with a cold brew coffee in the morning for a little extra kick!
