Sleep. An Important Factor in Weight Loss

As a health coach the #1 health concern coming from clients is weight loss with lack of energy levels coming in second. We all have reasons why we may not sleep well including kids, not having enough time in the day, insomnia, stress, etc. but this is an area we all need to realize is SUPER important for health reasons. CEO or a 22 year old college student, we all need to realize that sleep means more to our bodies than simply feeling well rested. Let’s highlight just a few of them on World Sleep Day.

5 Reasons to Get Rome Rest!

  1.  Metabolism: A lack of sleep can spike cortisol levels which slow the metabolism.
  2. Immune System: Movement, digestion, pollutants, etc….your body works hard all day. Sleeping gives your body a chance to focus on cell regeneration and fight off any sickness brewing in the body. When your doc tells you to rest- it is for a reason!
  3. Overall Happiness: I feel like we all know the feeling of sleep deprivation.  Your husband or friend chewing too loud? Simply breathing? Or did you just stay up all night binge-watching your favorite show? Guilty.
  4. Cravings: This is a HUGE one. When your body is tired, naturally you crave sugar and carbs. We need energy! When you sleep better, your cravings are much more likely to subside. It’s true!
  5. Digestion: My Gawd. We all like chips or ice cream at night but please take our word for it…if you have any digestive issues or have trouble sleeping, cut that shit off by 7. It is amazing how well it works for so many people! We do not realize how much energy it takes to digest food and it may be the culprit of keeping us up at night.

Bless #worldsleepday and let’s all make a pact to get our 7-8 hours! It may change the world 🙂
