How to Be a Hydration Honey: Tips to Go Beyond H20

It’s that time of year again – time to brush off your bikini or bodysuit, and brush on your body glitter. It’s music festival season folks! A time for carefree prancing in (practically) no clothing while the hottest musicians serenade you, from sun up until sun down. And while the teeny tiny outfits may be a bit out there, the “minimalist” look does at least serve to keep the festival followers cool while temps start to creep up towards a toasty summer-sizzle.

As we start to skip our way out of the mellow springtime weather and into the searing temps of summer sunshine, it really doesn’t matter if you’re a music fest “freak” or not: staying properly hydrated becomes a major factor in everyone’s health. Not only can dehydration put you at risk for a myriad of medical complications, but it can really impair your “fire factor” since proper hydration is the best way to bump up your beauty naturally.

Today, we’re sharing our favorite saturating snacks to help you stay happy, healthy, and hydrated through festival and bikini season! Don’t worry, we’re not going to tell you to just drink more water (although you should shoot for at least 8 glasses a day). We’re keeping things spicy and diving into our fave sneaky thirst quenchers that’ll keep you looking and feeling bomb all summer long!

Coachella Chillin with Cucumber
If you’ve found yourself running around Coachella or Stagecoach, you may (or may not…) find it hard to believe that people share a commonality with cucumbers: we’re both made up of more than 50% water. And while cucumbers have us beat at 97% water to our 60%, it just highlights this veggies hydrating horsepower. Boasting the highest water concentration of any other solid food, cucumbers really are a hydrating home run. On top of thwarting off thirst, the fiber content of this veg will help to keep you feeling full while also detoxifying that bikini bod.
Another bonus? Cucumbers are loaded with B-vitamins, which happen to be natures best hangover-fighting nutrients. So if you perhaps festival-ed a little too hard, having a few cucumbers on deck can seriously come in clutch. Who’d have guessed that cucumbers could be the perfect Coachella cure?!

Hydration Snack Hack:
Throw together a quick and healthy cucumber salad by tossing together diced cucumber and onion. Drizzle a super simple mix of white wine vinegar and a pinch of coconut sugar (all to taste) plus whatever spices you’d like! Dill, salt, and black pepper are a great trio for this mix.

Makin’ Money Moves with Melon
With a name like watermelon, it kind of makes sense that this fabulous fruit would be a saturation superstar. But let’s not forget about watermelon’s orange counterpart, cantaloupe, that also hits hydration out of the park.
On top of the high water content, both melon varieties pack in an electrolyte elixir that’s a major key to maintaining a stable hydration level. Plus, both melon mega-stars are chalk full of both vitamin A and C, which help to thin out the outermost surface layer of your skin, which tends to be a pore-clogging culprit. Basically, munching on these melons will do your skin some serious good-hydrating you from the inside while simultaneously smoothing things out, outside. So if you’re going for that real-life, instagram filtered, flawless look, it’s time to cut some rind.

Hydration Snack Hack:
Cube up a mix of these two marvelous melons and then drizzle a mix of lemon juice, fresh mint, and just a touch of honey. And if you’re feeling wild, toss in a few blueberries as well for an added kick of antioxidants!

Join the Avo-Squad, Yo!
Over the last few years,  avocado (particularly when it’s smashed on toast and photographed for insta) seems to have joined pumpkin as one of the main food groups for the quintessential “basic B”. But you know what? We’re not even mad about it because this green fleshed superfood is just about perfect in our eyes. Not only are they loaded with nutrients, but avo’s are packed with potassium, a mineral MUST when it comes to staying hydrated.
We all know that it takes some work in to stay festival fleeky and summertime fine, so adding in avocados to your diet will boost your bomb factor ten-fold. In addition to kicking thirst to the curb, the healthy fats in avocados will have you glowing-up in no time! Seriously, the omega-3’s in this fruit (not veggie) are a moisturizing miracle for your hair and for keeping your skin supple, from the inside out. The cherry (or should we say guac?) on top? The oleic acid found in avocados has been shown to control stored fat levels. So whether you’re rocking a barely-there look at a music fest or a super saucy swimsuit poolside, make sure you’re eatin’ these bad boys like you’re the president of the avo-squado committee.

Hydration Snack Hack:
This combo will give you a double dose of hydration with the addition of cucumber! Chop up an avocado and toss it in with some chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, and cilantro. Drizzle with lemon juice and just a splash of olive oil and a pinch of salt, and you’ve got yourself a winning mix!
